Apoca-Fox Now

Here Zombie Regina salutes the women of the apocalypse. If you think she’s taking liberties by sneaking dystopian babes onto the list keep it to yourself because she’s not in the mood to argue. She also realizes all lists are subjective so if one of your favorites is missing don’t get your knickers in a crunchy twist, just add her in the comments.

So what exactly qualifies one as a true Apoca-Fox? Beauty, brains and most importantly – a relentless drive to survive.  Zombie Regina counts ‘em down.

#10 Gaylen Ross as Francine in Dawn of the Dead (1978)

Zombie Regina’s bias is showing because she put two Dawn of the Dead babes on the list. There is much to love about Francine, from her disco feathered hair to the adorable way she cozies up her hideaway in the Monroeville Mall in classic 70s suburban style.  There was supposedly an alternate ending planned in which Francine kills herself with a helicopter (don’t ask); thank god Romero scrapped it because that would’ve broken Zombie Regina’s heart.

#9 Jenny Agutter as Jessica 6 in Logan’s Run

In the dystopian pinup girl calendar in Zombie Regina’s mind (and there is one), Jessica 6 would make a lovely Miss May. Innocent as a spring lamb, lovely as a daffodil. And let’s see you escape the Carousel in nothing but a chiffon scarf.

#8 Adrienne Barbeau as Maggie in Escape from New York

It takes mad Apoca-Fox skills to keep the bewbies looking this good while running around dystopian Manhattan looking for Donald Pleasence’s finger.

#7 Rene Russo as Robby in Outbreak

It’s shamefully hard to find good pictures of Rene in Outbreak. Google seems to think we’d rather look at Dustin Hoffman and Cuba Gooding. Nevertheless, has a hazmat suit ever looked this soigné? When Zombie Regina grows up she wants to be a virologist with cheekbones so fierce they could slice a diseased monkey in two.

#6 Joanna Cassidy as Zhora in Blade Runner

Pris may have been the Pleasure Model but it’s Replicant Zhora who makes Zombie Regina swoon. Gorgeous and deadly, at least until Harrison Ford pumps a bunch of bullets in her back.

#5 Naomie Harris as Selena in 28 Days Later

Selena demonstrates her Apoca-Fox chops early on when she whips a machete out of her purse and dispatches a friend whose just been infected without batting an eyelash. In case of an apocalyptic plague, give Zombie Regina Naomie over Cillian Murphy any day.

#4 Sarah Polley as Ana in Dawn of the Dead (2004)

In the first moments of the movie Ana fends off the scary zombie kid from next door, watches her husband die and reanimate, outruns him through a tiny bathroom window, and survives a car crash. All barefoot, in PJs, and without benefit of coffee. For a Canadian, Sarah Polley is mighty badass.

#3 Tina Turner as Aunty Entity in Beyond Thunderdome

Thankfully there’s lots of hair mousse in Barterville so Aunty Entity can volumize properly. She is bodaciously terrifying in every way, particularly in the shoulder area.

#2 Milla Jovovich as Alice in Resident Evil series

Zombie Regina doesn’t need to explain this choice to you, right? Didn’t think so.

#1 Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor in Terminator 2

While T1 Sarah Connor has her charms (The scooter! The headband! The bangs!) it is the buffed-up, gun-toting Sarah of T2 who deserves the top spot. Linda Hamilton’s transformation was one of the top draws of T2 and despite the fact that Sarah doesn’t actually live long enough to see the apocalypse, she belongs here because its coming defines and drives her. Zombie Regina especially appreciates how Sarah uses the end of the world as an opportunity to trade in that bad perm for a most excellent blow-out.
